May 9, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) KOTW wishes everyone a Happy Mother's Day. Mother's Day history has a connection to New Jersey as President Woodrow Wilson signed the bill that made Mother's Day a national holiday.
Here is a little history taken from Wikipedia regarding Mother's Day. The interesting thing is that Mother's Day is observed around the world and each nation gives it a slightly different significance.

April 21, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) Voters approved the Kearny School Budget last night. The vote count was 1578 votes(58.51%) in favor and 1119 votes (41.49%) against.
Our KOTW poll results on "Are You in Favor of the Kearny School Board Budget?" were 57 votes (50.9%) No and 55 votes (49.1%) Yes. The poll was not an accurate reflection of the actual results but captured the sentiment that the budget was not the hot issue in the school board election.

April 20, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) The preliminary results of the Kearny Board of Education Election have two challengers, Robert O'Malley and George King, garnering the most votes followed by incumbent Bernadette McDonald as a third top vote getter. The top three vote getters win a seat on the Kearny Board of Education.
Robert O'Malley received 1291 votes. George King received 1286 votes. Bernadette McDonald received 1220 votes. John Munro received 1200 votes. Alan Doffont received 1180 votes. Joseph Sgalia received 1065 votes. Personal Choice received 9 votes. There were a total of 7251 votes cast.
Absentee ballots votes are not included in the above tallies. There is a possibility that if there are a significant number of absentee ballots that the election results could change between the third and fourth vote getters -- Bernadette McDonald and John Munro. The vote difference between McDonald and Munro is 20 votes.

April 18, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) The Polls for the Kearny School Board Election have opened. This year's election voter turnout is expected to be larger than in years past. Three challengers have raised the interest surrounding what normally is a very low turnout election. The Challengers John Munro, George King and Bob O'Malley are seeking to unseat incumbents Bernadette McDonald, Alan Doffant, and Joe Sgalia. Polls are open until 9 p.m. tonight.
KOTW will report poll results as soon as they become available tonight.

April 18, 2010 (Kearny, NJ) The Kearny School Board Election will be held this Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The polls will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. KOTW will have the poll results as soon as they become available.
KOTW has experienced increased traffic from a very heated discussion surrounding the Kearny Board of Education Election. The thread simply entitled "BOE" in the Kearny section of our Discussion Board has generated over 379 reply posts and almost 14,000 views. Our Poll entitled "Who's Your First Pick for Kearny Board of Education?" generated controversy when it became apparent that someone circumvented our one vote per day policy and voted on multiple occasions on the same day for one candidate. The votes that count however will be cast this coming Tuesday at the polls in Kearny.
